Building Godly Habits

A review of Oswald Chambers "My Utmost for His Highest"

I recently purchased this book after hearing about it on an episode of Tim Ross' "The Basement" podcast on YouTube. This book is no joke! Like get your Holy Spirit life TOGETHER! I appreciate the daily devotionals so much because it is a jolt to my soul! I wanted to share my notes from a recent one! Praying Holy Spirit leads and guides you to revelation from the Lord.

  1. Recognize God's Provision

  • remove self pity

  • avoid complaining

  • remember God is our source (Psalm 87:7)

  • God holds us responsible (2 Corinthians 9:8)

  • Generously give of yourself

  • Be marked and identified with God's Nature

2. Have No Habits (2 Peter 1:8)

  • Do not worship your habits

  • Avoid developing spiritual pride

  • Perform a self examination

  • make sure your habits are so immersed in the Lord that you practice without even knowing it

  • Don't be aware of your own holiness

3. Keep A Clear Conscience ( Acts 24:16)

conscious - the ability within me that attaches itself to the highest standard I know, and then continually reminds me of what that standard demands that I do.

The eye of the soul should be towards........

GOD

  • Live without offense

  • Spirit of my mind is renewed through every circumstance of life

  • Be open to God on the inside

  • Keep inner vision clear

4. Enjoy Adversity

Adversity makes us exhibit His life in our mortal flesh

  • Lord I am Delighted to obey you in this

  • Allow Him to manifest in my body where He receive the glory (2 Corinthians 4:10)

  • DO NOT DEBATE

  • Let Jesus' light shine through me in adversity

  • properly condition your soul to manifest the life of the Son of God

5. Rise to the occasion (1 Peter 4:12)

  • do SOMETHING to exhibit your salvation (Philippians 2:12)

  • Evaluate your: Speech, Thinking and Emotions

  • Submit to His will
